With 3 million+ members, Date the UK is one of the bigger UK internet dating sites. It offers online flirting, secure email services, photo personal ads and a free dating search and match process as well as a forum and blog.

Standard membership is free, but this only allows you to look through profiles and use the search facility. Upgrading to full membership is pretty much essential if you want to meet someone--it allows more detailed searching (very useful with millions of profiles on the site), chatting and most importantly sending and reading emails to other members.

Upgraded membership offers two different plans - Gold and Platinum. Gold membership offers technical support within 24 hours, 50 emails per day, 50 chat sessions per day, upload of up to 5 photos and review your emails up to 60 days old.

Platinum membership offers technical support within 12 hours, unlimited emails, chat and photo uploads and you can review emails dating back to a full year.

For most people, Gold membership offers the best value for money and has more than enough facilities for the average user.

One useful upgrade is to allow non-paying members (standard membership holders) to contact you rather than just others who pay for subscriptions. This is quite useful for men seeking women, as statistically less women pay for full membership on internet dating sites. This feature costs an additional £3/month. You can also highlight your profile to make it stand out in the crowd, which costs an additional £3/month.

We do like that you are emailed when someone sends you a message, and, unlike many other services, you are able to click on them and see the profile of your prospective Romeo/Juliet, even if you can't actually read the message without signing up to the full service.

Love guarantee: DatetheUK offers a 'Love guarantee' on 6 month memberships - if (after satisfying T&C's) you are still single after 6 months they will extend your full membership for 6 months - and, unlike other online dating guarantees, if you still haven't found love after another 6 months they will extend it again!

Prices: DatetheUK offer two different plans - gold and platinum plans and prices are different for men and women.

Gold plan costs for men: £24.99 for 1 month, £44.99 for 3 months, £59.99 for 6 months and £89.99 for 12 months.

Gold plan costs for women: £19.99 for 1 month, £34.99 for 3 months, £44.99 for 6 months and £69.99 for 12 months.

Platinum plan costs for men: £29.99 for 1 month, £49.99 for 3 months, £69.99 for 6 months (includes the love guarantee) and £99.99 for 12 months.

Platinum plan costs for women: £24.99 for 1 month, £39.99 for 3 months, £54.99 for 6 months (includes Love guarantee) and £74.99 for 12 months.

One of the better dating sites out there - and I've tried a few. I gave up on the free ones which seem to be just out to fleece you in some other way, and send a million emails to fill up your inbox from their 'partners'. I figure that if someone's willing to pay then they're probably more serious about the whole thing anyway. So fare I contacted a dozen prospective dates and have chatted with 3 of them so far and had a few emails back too. There's plenty of profiles to look at. Glad I upgraded.
